Textile Mock-ups

pattern dress2I finally got my new computer and It’s amazing and blazing fast, so now I can quickly create textile mock-ups and design my post  without photoshop lagging! I used a simple white dress that I found on topshop and used  a displacement mask to create a somewhat realistic mock-up of my pattern on the dress. If you like the other Items they’re all from Madewell and I absolutely love all of them!

I made my first  ”toss” repeat the other day and it’s a bit different than  working with one square or rectangle, but it helps a lot to create a random tossed appearance and I quite like the results. If any of you are interested in seeing a tutorial on how to make a toss repeat let me know! I love sharing what I’ve learned.

Today I’d like to talk about the amazing Amy Sia. If you don’t already know her work check out  amy-sia.com and browse through her gorgeous scarf collection.  Amy’s work is full of beautiful, ethereal , watercolor-esque patterns.I find her bright abstract textiles to be very inspiring and original. Although I love her textiles I think I love her pinterest post just as much, if not more. She has one of the coolest and most colorful collections on pinterest, it’s seriously jammed packed full of inspiring design, patterns ,fashion ,art and other awesome finds. If you’re not already following her you’re really missing out on a constant stream of colorful inspiration.

For those of you who follow me you might be wondering why I stopped posting patterns, and the reason is that my computer is really really slow and needs a good file cleaning. Along with a super slow computer I have other issues going on with my programs too, e.g: every time I try making something new in Ai it either crashes or turns my vector work into outline mode permanently due to insufficient memory–anybody ever have this issue? so without any vector capabilities around I’ve been keeping myself busy by knitting , sketching and catching up on shows and sleep.  Once my computer issues are fixed I promise to post more free pattern sets.Thank you to all the people who downloaded my current sets, hope you liked them!

Today’s post is a little different;I’ve been exploring pattern and realized that only designing seamless patterns is limiting myself from the free form found in non-seamless patterns and art, so I grabbed a paint brush and started painting free hand without any direction and I came up with a henna inspired free form pattern. Im quite happy results, hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it. Also I’m excited to say that all my phone cases in my Society6 shop are now available for the new iphone5! :D

Jellies

I’ve been exploring patterns and different techniques  and I really like how hand drawn patterns look, so I actually spent quite some time doodling jellyfish before I came up with one I really liked. Then I scanned in the image and vectorized it. Overall Im pretty happy with the results.

Hello, readers

I have a couple of  updates to share.

Yay, I’ve made it through 40 days of patterns! Through this daily challenge, of creating a pattern a day, I realized I truly love designing patterns. I hope to one day be  a successful  surface pattern designer, but I’ve realized I need to spend more time developing my style. So I’m going to try to spend more time creating unique patterns. I’ll continue to post my patterns but they probably wont be as frequent. Quality over Quantity is my new goal.

-Also Im working on making my current patterns into free sets and digital paper.

expect to see more awesome patterns soon :D
